An Afghan man has been arrested in Texas after posting a video online in which he claimed he was building a bomb and intended to target the city of Fort Worth, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the Department of Homeland Security took the suspect, identified as Mohammad Dawood Alokzai, into custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
Authorities said Alokzai had arrived in the United States under Operation Allies Welcome, a federal programme established to resettle Afghan nationals following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
According to US media reports, the arrested Afghan citizen was issued an American Green Card on September 7, 2022.
Officials began investigating after Alokzai allegedly uploaded a TikTok video asserting he was constructing an explosive device and naming Fort Worth as his target.
Homeland Security officials have not yet disclosed further details about the threat assessment or the materials allegedly involved.
The case has heightened scrutiny of online threat-making and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in monitoring extremist content on social media platforms.
The suspect remains in federal custody as the investigation continues.
