Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz said on Tuesday that despite the fact that other provincial governments criticized the Punjab government’s handling of the post-flood situation, the provincial ministers did not bother as they remained in the field and helped the affected people, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a function held at the University of Chakwal to distribute laptops among the students, she said that if floods were unprecedented in the Punjab’s history, the provincial government’s response too was ‘unprecedented’, as mass evacuation of the people was carried out. “Not only were the lives of human beings saved, but also those of two million animals.”
The chief minister vowed that she would not rest until all the people were rehabilitated.
She asked people to question their governments if they did not have metro buses, laptop schemes in their provinces.
Maryam said that when she took over as the CM of the province, the law and order situation in the province was pathetic. “There were murders, dacoities, and incidents of rape in the province. But now the crime rate has come down.”
She claimed that every hiring in the province was done on merit.
Referring to the recent visit by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia, she said that the country was no longer isolated as it used to be four years ago. “Look, how the prime minister was given a warm reception on arrival at the holy land,” she said, adding, “When we took over, the national exchequer was empty. But not now.”
She further said that it was heartening to see that girls had outclassed boys in recent exams in Rawalpindi. “However, I don’t want to underestimate the potential of male students.”
Maryam said that not only in Punjab, she also wanted to offer scholarships to students in other provinces as well.
She claimed that dozens of government schools in the province had been revamped, and now they gave a completely different look.
The chief minister said that the Punjab government had introduced the subject of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools.
Recalling her days in jail, she said that she had been imprisoned without any crime.
