Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh and a federal intelligence agency arrested five operatives of banned outfits during joint operations in different parts of Karachi, officials said on Sunday.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the raids were conducted on intelligence reports near Manghopir and the KMC Sports Complex on Kashmir Road.

Two of the arrested suspects, identified as Allah Noor and Sarfaraz, are linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while three others — Saleem, Jahanzeb and Imdadullah — belong to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

Illegal weapons were seized from their possession, which have been sent for forensic testing, the spokesperson said. The CTD added that the suspects had received military training in a neighbouring country and were planning acts of terrorism in Karachi.

“Further interrogation is underway,” the spokesperson said.
