West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has etched his name into the record books by breaking Afghanistan star Rashid Khan’s seven-year-old record for the most wickets taken in T20 cricket in a calendar year, 24NewsHD TV reported on Wednesday.

Holder enjoyed a remarkable year with the ball, claiming 97 wickets in T20 matches during 2025.

This is now the highest number of wickets taken by any bowler in a single calendar year in the history of T20 cricket.

The previous record of 96 wickets was held by Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who achieved the feat in 2018.

Former West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo (DJ Bravo) previously topped the list in 2016, when he picked up 87 wickets.

He now sits third on the all-time list of most T20 wickets in a calendar year.

Afghanistan’s young spinner Noor Ahmad also enjoyed an impressive run in 2025, finishing with 86 wickets to place fifth on the list.

Rashid Khan appears multiple times in the rankings, having taken 81 wickets in 2022 and 80 wickets in 2017, placing him fifth and sixth, respectively, in the overall standings.
