Pakistan Railways achieved a historic milestone in 2025, generating more than Rs 93 billion in revenue, marking one of its most successful years in recent history.
Hanif Abbasi was appointed Minister of Railways on March 7, overseeing significant developments throughout the year. Among major achievements, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated Karachi Cantt Station projects on November 17, enhancing infrastructure and passenger facilities.
The formation of the Safety Department as a dedicated directorate helped reduce the accident rate to just 0.04 percent, and no major train accidents were reported during the year.
Several initiatives aimed at promoting tourism and public-private partnerships were also launched. The Zero Point Thar Desert Safari Train was inaugurated to boost cultural tourism, while Shah Hussain and Pak Business Express trains were operated under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models. Additionally, the Khushal Khan Khattak Express was restored after a five-year hiatus.
In 2025, 394 acres of railway land were reclaimed from illegal occupants, further strengthening the department’s assets. Despite challenges such as increased fare rates and train delays due to fog, Pakistan Railways maintained strong operational performance, making 2025 a landmark year for the national rail network.
