The government is likely to drop another bombshell on the people like the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will take up CPPA’s request for Rs3.12 per unit increase in the electricity prices for the hearing today (Tuesday, February 1, 2022), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
If increased, it will put an additional burden of over Rs30 billion on consumers.
The CPPA, in its petition, says that over 8 billion units of electricity at the cost of over Rs73 billion was produced in the country in December 2021.
It is further stated in the petition that electricity was produced from the furnace oil in the month under review at the most expensive rates; Rs22. 24 per unit; from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) at Rs17.80 per unit; from Diesel at Rs14.8 per unit, and from coal at Rs13.31 per unit.
Similarly, the petition reads, that electricity import from Iran cost the government Rs13.26 per unit
