The Punjab Assembly Wednesday passed two key bills, introducing a new legal framework to encourage public participation in exposing property tax evasion and strengthening price control and horticulture regulation in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Under the newly passed Whistleblower Bill, any citizen who reports property tax evasion will now be formally recognised as a “whistleblower” and entitled to a reward—provided the government successfully recovers tax or imposes a fine based on the information shared. The reward amount will be disbursed from the recovered fines.
In a related move to incentivise government performance, excise officers will also receive performance-based rewards for identifying cases of tax evasion.
In addition to the whistleblower legislation, the Assembly also passed two more important laws: the Punjab Horticulture Authority Bill 2025 and the Punjab Essential Commodities Price Control (Amendment) Bill 2025, both aimed at enhancing regulatory oversight and ensuring price stability for essential goods.
The bills were passed by majority vote, signalling the government’s intent to tighten fiscal accountability, promote civic responsibility, and modernise tax enforcement mechanisms in the province.
