The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh The Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace ordered the removal of K-Electric’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi, from his position over charges of workplace harassment on Thursday.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the decision comes after a detailed inquiry found Alvi guilty of harassing a senior female executive during her tenure at K-Electric.
The ombudsman has also imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 million on K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi, which must be paid directly to the complainant, Ms Mahreen Aziz Khan, a resident of DHA Karachi.
Failure to pay will result in the seizure of his property and the blocking of his CNIC, as per the court's orders.
According to the complaint, the woman was appointed Chief Marketing Officer at K-Electric in 2019.
She alleged that CEO Moonis Alvi persistently pressured her to accompany him for private dinners at night and made inappropriate remarks about her body figure.
Ironically, this development follows K-Electric’s official reappointment of Alvi as CEO on July 7, 2025, to take effect from July 30, 2025.
The Board of Directors had unanimously decided to extend his leadership, citing his performance and “future-ready” vision.
Moonis Alvi, who joined K-Electric in 2008 and served as CFO, company secretary, and head of treasury, had been CEO since 2018.
With three decades of financial expertise, he was instrumental in transforming K-Electric into a digital and customer-centric utility.
