Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson has revealed that a simple act of politeness once cost her a role, as she recalled being labelled “cocky” after greeting casting members with a handshake during an audition.
The Fifty Shades star opened up about the surprising experience while promoting her latest comedy film Splitsville, sharing how what she believed was basic courtesy was perceived very differently by industry insiders.
According to Dakota Johnson, the incident happened during a callback audition.
She entered the room, greeted everyone warmly, introduced herself, and shook hands before performing her scene.
However, the feedback she later received left her stunned.
She was told her behaviour came across as “pompous” and overly self-assured.
The actress explained that she was simply raised to be respectful and professional, making the criticism particularly confusing.
In her words, she was not trying to impress anyone but was instead following what she considered normal manners.
The rejection, she admitted, felt unfair and highlighted the unpredictable nature of auditions in the entertainment industry.
