The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) Tuesday asked for Rs2,793 million for paying the salaries and pensions of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC).
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the MoIB forwarded the summary to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for approval of the funds to pay the salaries and pensions of employees of the APP and the PBC.
According to the summary, the APP is facing a shortfall of Rs450 million and the PBC Rs2343 million.
The PBC was allocated an amount of Rs4628 million while APP was allocated Rs1406 million during the financial year 2022-23.
However, both these entities of MoIB have been facing a major shortfall in payment of salaries to regular employees, pension including family pension and commutation to the retired employees of the organization.
PBC could not pay the salaries, monthly pension and artists’ payments for the last three months, while APP does not have funds to pay the salaries for the months of May and June 2023.
The ECC will consider the summary of the Ministry of Information in the next couple of days.
