A large-scale police operation remained under way in Khairpur after a police officer was martyred in firing carried out by armed assailants, prompting authorities to launch an extensive search across the area.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel report, a heavy contingent of police personnel from across the district surrounded the village of Feroz Haji as part of efforts to trace those believed to be involved in the attack.
Police sources said search operations were conducted at the homes of suspected individuals, while several people were taken into custody for questioning.
Authorities said investigations were continuing and further action would be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
According to police sources, some of the suspects' houses were set on fire during the operation.
The blaze reportedly destroyed wheat stocks, bedding, traditional charpoys and a tractor parked on the premises.
Senior police officers, including Ameer Saud Magsi and Abdullah Afzal, led the operation.
Police officials said security personnel had remained at the scene since overnight and were continuing efforts to locate and arrest those responsible for the officer's death.
