Despite inflation and rising household expenses, the spirit of sacrifice remained strong across Punjab during Eid-ul-Azha, with official figures showing a significant increase in the number of animals sacrificed compared with last year.
According to official data, a total of 2,028,217 animals were sacrificed across the province during this year’s Eid celebrations.
The figures indicate a notable rise in participation, reflecting the continued religious commitment of people throughout Punjab.
Among the animals sacrificed, 1,328,891 were goats, sheep and rams. Large animals, including calves, cows, bulls and camels, accounted for 699,326 of the total number.
The latest figures show a marked increase from the previous year, when 1,534,350 animals were sacrificed across Punjab.
This year's total represents an increase of approximately 494,000 animals over the corresponding period last year.
The rise was observed not only in rural communities but also in major urban centres, where demand for sacrificial animals remained strong despite economic pressures.
Livestock markets witnessed unusually large crowds of buyers in the days leading up to Eid.
The increased sale of animals also provided a significant boost to the livestock sector, benefiting breeders, traders and others associated with the industry.
