Ana de Armas reportedly called time on her whirlwind romance with Tom Cruise after feeling uneasy about how quickly things were moving.
According to Us Weekly, the Ballerina actress, 37, ended the relationship several weeks ago after nine months of dating the Mission: Impossible star, 63.
“The breakup was Ana’s decision,” a source revealed. “Things were moving fast and she started to get a little uncomfortable with how fast it was going.”
While the split was amicable, the insider added that the two “still like each other a lot” and share “undeniable chemistry.” However, for now, they have decided to take a step back.
“They want to remain friends, but she needed some space,” the source explained. “They still have a connection and might see how things go in the future.”
Their romance reportedly blossomed during the filming of their upcoming thriller Deeper, where they spent “every day together training for intense underwater sequences.” Production on the film has since been put on hold.
“It started as a deep professional respect and then it ignited,” another insider told Daily Mail. “Tom was completely captivated by Ana. She thought he was fun, supportive, and admired how passionate he was about his work.”
However, following their breakup, reports claim the Cuban-born actress has been feeling “in a funk” after both the split and the film’s delay.
“Ana thought this year would be very different and is disappointed,” a source said. “But she knows it will get better. She’s still friends with Tom and not crying at home.”
An insider previously told The Sun that although “the spark had gone,” the pair are on good terms and will continue to work together.
“Tom and Ana had a good time together but realized they weren’t going to go the distance. They’re better off as friends,” the source noted.
The duo were last seen publicly together in July, shortly before news of their separation surfaced.
