The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced a new policy regulating Umrah visas, requiring pilgrims to travel to Saudi Arabia within one month of visa issuance, or risk automatic cancellation.
According to Ahmed Bajaifar, advisor to the National Committee for Umrah, the new regulation will take effect next week. The move aims to control overcrowding at the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah and to ensure that visas are issued in line with the accommodation and transport capacities of the two holy cities.
Previously, Umrah pilgrims had a three-month window to travel after their visa was issued. Under the revised policy, that period has been shortened to 30 days to better manage the growing influx of visitors, especially as the month of Ramadan approaches — a period that traditionally sees a sharp rise in pilgrim numbers.
Bajaifar noted that the decision was made after assessing logistical and environmental factors, including the improving weather and the anticipated high turnout of worshippers. The reduced visa duration, he added, would help authorities enhance crowd control, optimize resources, and improve the experience for all pilgrims.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating safe and smooth Umrah journeys, ensuring that pilgrims can perform their religious duties with comfort, dignity, and ease.
