Conviction rate in NAB cases is 70 , claims chairman

Bureau’s own JIT formed to avoid influence during investigation

National Accountability Bureau Chairman, Justice ® Javed Iqbal has said the NAB believes in zero corruption and 100% in progress.

NAB has formed a multi-dimensional approach in order to curb the white-collar crime, and has recently established the latest forensic science laboratory.

The NAB chairman presided over a meeting at NAB Headquarters in Islamabad to review the overall performance of each of its departments.

Addressing the meeting, he said that the institution has outlined a comprehensive policy to eliminate the menace of corruption. The performance of the current administration of NAB has drawn positive reaction from the general public, he added.

The conviction rate in the NAB-related case is around 70%, which is one of the best performances by any organization dealing with the white-collar crimes.

Javed Iqbal also said that the NAB has established the latest forensic laboratory that will help detect the white-collar crime.

NAB Chairman said that after a detailed analysis these departments have been made operational. These departments include operation prosecution, training and research, human resource development, awareness and prevention division.

He said that NAB considers it a national responsibility to eradicate corruption, and to deal it with iron hand, as its dividends will benefit the layman.

Justice Iqbal said that they are all united against corruption, and are determined to usher in an era of development and corruption-free Pakistan. He directed all the officers to follow merit, while doing their jobs which is no less than a national duty.

NAB Chairman said the organization has set up a joint-investigation team in order to prevent any external influence during investigation. This team comprises two investigation officers, besides a legal consultant and a financial expert.

This team would be working under the concerned additional director in order to ensure transparency and impartial inquiry. This new mechanism is aimed at finding concrete evidence during the investigation of the cases.

Javed Iqbal said that NAB has devised a monitoring and evaluation system that would review the performance of all the regional bureaus, besides the NAB Headquarters. This system is aimed at evaluating the NAB’s performance on the basis of both qualitative and quantitative proportion.

He said that NAB heads the SAARC anti-corruption forum that suggests the remarkable recognition of its performance.

He said that the organization is determined to bring the corrupt elements to justice. He added that NAB has retrieved 153 billion rupees from the corrupt elements. Justice Iqbal said that NAB Ordinance 1999 stresses the recovery of looted money, and that NAB has recovered 328 billion rupees since its formation to date.
