The Supreme Court on Thursday summoned federal ministers Asad Umar, Hammad Azhar and Muhammadmian Soomro in connection with Pakistan Steel Mills employees promotion case, on February 9, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that in practical terms the Steel Mills did not exist and the court will order for closure of the mills.

The CJP remarked that the PSM administration was responsible for the poor state of affairs of the mills. The CJP said that no federal secretary is working as all of them are merely writing letters, which in fact is the job of the clerks. “I don’t know why the government has appointed these secretaries,” the CJP wondered.

The Chief Justice strongly reprimanded the management of the Pakistan Steel Mills and said that if the mills was shut down then why the management is still working. “The closed mills does not need any MD or Chief Executive. The management and officers of the institution are a burden on the national exchequer. They should be removed from the mills before the employees,” the CJP said.

The CJP remarked the steel mills are profit-making entities in other parts of the world on which the PSM lawyer replied that daily expenditure has been reduced from Rs200 million to Rs100 million.

The Chief Justice remarked that after so many loans what can be done other than closing down the steel mills.

The CJP further said that he would take a decision on February 9 about the mills after hearing the federal ministers.
