The Lahore High Court (LHC) in a landmark judgment dismissed Punjab government’s fixing of 20 percent recruitment quota of government employees in South Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

LHC declared 20 percent quota as contrary to Article 27 of the constitution of Pakistan. The Lahore High Court dismissed all appeals filed for allocating 20 percent quota for recruitment in South Punjab, the TV channel reported.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Ayesha A Malik dismissed all petitions filed by the Punjab government, the TV channel reported.

The court said the government has allocated 20 percent quota of jobs for South Punjab without prior approval from the Punjab Assembly. It is pertinent to note that last year, the single bench of LHC Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi directed the Punjab government not to allocate 20 percent quota of jobs to any particular area or city of Punjab province.
