COAS condoles death of ex-naval chief Admiral Karamat Niazi

Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has condoled the death of former naval chief Admiral Karamat Rehman Niazi who passed away in Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday expressed heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Admiral Karamat Rahman Niazi (retired). “May Allah bless his soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, Ameen,” the COAS said in a tweet.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi has also expressed his condolences on the sad demise of Karamat Rehman Niazi and paid tribute to the former naval chief.

Admiral Karamat better known as KR Niazi was the retired four-star rank admiral who served as the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) from 1979 to 1983 in the Pakistan Navy.

He is renowned for being the commander of the submarine PNS Ghazi during the second war with India in 1965, for which he was decorated.

Karamat Niazi was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, British India, to a Pashtun noble family who belonged to the Niazi tribe.

After graduating from a local high school, he commissioned in the Pakistan Navy as a midshipman in 1948 in Operations Branch and initially did his training at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth in the United Kingdom.

Upon returning, he was promoted as sub-lieutenant and his career in the Navy progressed extremely well, eventually being promoted to lieutenant-commander in 1962.

After his retirement, Admiral KR Niazi lived a very quiet life and did not seek public office, but served on preaching Islam for the rest of his life.
