IMF ready for talks with Pakistan on new loan programme,  says spokesperson

International Monetary Fund (IMF) is ready for talks with Pakistan on the new loan program, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

According to 24Newshd TV channel, the IMF spokesperson said Pakistan has expressed interest in the new loan programme.

The new loan program will be negotiated in the coming months, the official said, adding that the economic condition of Pakistan has improved and economic confidence is being restored.

The IMF Executive Board meeting is expected at the end of April and with the approval of the IMF Executive Board, the final instalment of more than $1b will be released to Pakistan under the short-term loan programme, the spokesperson said, adding that after the last installment, the amount received by Pakistan will reach $3b

The caretaker government and the State Bank strictly implemented the loan programme, and the new government intends to strengthen the economy, the official maintained, adding economic growth estimates for Pakistan will be released next week.
