Pakistan has less than 21,000 Covid cases, death toll tops 6,000

With less than 21,000 active coronavirus cases, the pandemic is clearly being contained in Pakistan where another 675 people were diagnosed with the deadly virus during the past 24 hours (Tuesday).

The latest figures released by the National Command and Operation Centre on Wednesday morning shows the overall number of confirmed coronavirus cases has now increased to 281,136.

The same period, meanwhile, also saw the death of 15 coronavirus patients, raising the overall toll to 6,014.

It means that 254,286 people have so far fully recovered from the infection whereas there are 20,836 patients currently in the country. Out of these, 872 are in a critical condition and being treated in the intensive care units of different hospitals.

On Tuesday, a total of 11,915 tests were administered across the country, which shows that the overall number has now jumped to 2,043,870.

As far as the regional distribution of coronavirus cases is concerned, Sindh continues to be the most-affected province in Pakistan with 122,016 infections recorded so far. It is followed 93,571 in Punjab, 34,324 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,122 in Islamabad, 11,780 in Balochistan, 2,218 in Gilgit Baltistan and 2,105 in Azad Kashmir.

Similarly, a total of 2,231 deaths have so far been reported in Sindh. The figures for other provinces/ regions are:  Punjab 2,157, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,213, Islamabad 167, Balochistan 136 and 55 each in Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
