Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) head Ramesh Kumar has regretted the burning down of a temple in Karak in police’s presence, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad outside the Supreme Court, Kumar alleged that the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) officials had been misappropriating funds meant for the Hindu temples.

He also demanded the reopening of Parlat Temple in Multan.

He said he had submitted a report to the Supreme Court today (Tuesday) in connection with the temple’s burning case.

He told media men that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) IGP had been tasked with inquiring into the incident. He said it was heartening that the IGP had admitted that what happened at Karak was shameful, and the result of police’s negligence.

The Pakistan Hindu Council head said already scores of people had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Ramesh said he was thankful to the Supreme Court as well as the entire judiciary for giving respect to the Hindu community.

He, however, praised Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his brother Maulana Attaur Rehman for their roles in the restoration of temple at Karak.

He was, particularly, appreciative of Maulana Atta’s cooperation in this regard.

He said the reason why JUI-F’s name was being linked to the case was because of the direct involvement of party’s local Amir Maulana Sharif who had also featured in a similar incident way back in 1997 when he enjoyed the ‘backing’ of Maulana Samiul Haq.
