ECP ignores Daska Election Inquiry Report to promote accused DRO, RO

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ignored the inquiry report of the by-elections in Daska and promoted the accused District Returning Officer (DRO) and Returning Officers (ROs).

The 24News HD TV channel reported on Friday that the inquiry report termed the DRO Daska Abid Hussain and RO Daska Athar Abbasi directly accused of rigging in the by-elections.

But, the ECP ignored the inquiry report and promoted DRO Abid in Grade-20 and posted him as Joint Election Commissioner Punjab while RO Athar Abbas has been appointed as Deputy Director Admin Lahore.

On the matter of promotion of the accused officials in the by-elections in Daska, the ECP was completely silent and authorities were refraining from responding on it.

The inquiry report has also disclosed that a meeting was held at the residence of Assistant Commissioner Daska in which Firdous Ashiq Awan, Deputy Director Education Muhammad Iqbal, Deputy Secretary of Chief Minister Punjab Ali Abbas attended.

The inquiry report said that in the meeting this was advised to the polling staff not to interfere in the matter of police and administration on the polling day.
