Opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement Monday hit the first glitch before its movement against the government could event take off.

The PDM had announced to hold its first rally in Quetta on October 11 but the date has been now changed to October 18 on the behest of two small parties of the opposition alliance, JUI-F and PKMAP.

But sources said the mainstream political party in the alliance, Pakistan People’s Party has strong reservations over postponement and selecting October 18 as the new date.

Sources said the PP has also reservations over the organizational structure of the alliance.

PPP remembers the martyrs of Karsaz incident on October 18. In that unfortunate incident, 177 people had been martyred while 610 had got injured.

PPP has decided now to hold a rally in Karachi on October 18 instead of joining the opposition’s alliance rally in Quetta.

However, sources in JUI-F, whose chief Fazlur Rehman is also head of the PDM, insisted that there were no bad intentions involved in the changing the date of the first rally of the alliance.

They said opposition’s unity was in the national interest and this alliance would be saved and would be taken forward at all cost.

They hoped that all the issues would be resolved in the next meeting of the steering committee of the PDM.
