Talks with IMF on suspended loan programme going on

The officials of Pakistan and International Monetary Fund would hold talks on the implementation of the IMF-imposed conditions agreed upon between the two sides for the release of the loan programme, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Sources told 24NewsHD that Pakistani officials would brief the Fund regarding country’s economic growth, imposition of taxes and reforms in the energy sector.

Chairman FBR and treasury ministry secretary would participate in the talks with the global money lender. 

The FBR chairman would brief the IMF officials on the tax targets and treasury ministry secretary would apprise it of the economic situation of the country.

The talks with the international money lender would continue during current week. 

Sources in the treasury ministry informed that the IMF officials would review the circular debt in energy sector.

An agreement for a $6 billion loan programme is still pending with the Fund. 

IMF resident representative Teresa Daban said that the Fund was holding talks with Pakistan on economic policy and reforms. Under IMF’s Article 4, the Fund is holding virtual talks with Pakistan for the completion of loan programme, she maintained.
