The overall number of coronavirus cases recorded officially in Pakistan reached 295,025 after another 513 people tested positive during the past 24 hours (Friday), shows the latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the deadly virus claimed five more lives during the same period, raising the overall toll to 6,340 in the country.

As far as the region-wise distribution of the coronavirus cases is concerned, Sindh tops the list after reporting 130,253 infections.

The similar figures for other provinces/regions are: Punjab 97,118, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 36,498, Islamabad 15,726, Balochistan 13,157, Gilgit-Baltistan 2,960 and Azad Kashmir 2,313.

Meanwhile, 285 people fully recovered from the infection during the past 24 hours, raising the number of recoveries to 282,553. It means the number of closed cases [deaths + recoveries] has reached 288,893 while there are 9,132 active cases in the country.

Pakistan is among those countries where not only the number of deaths has been reduced but the rate of infection is also controlled to a remarkable extent. However, the countries like France and Spain are going through a second surge. But the situation in neighbouring India is alarming as a total of 4,023,179 people have so far been infected by the virus there.
