Nepra approves slight cut in power tariff

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has reduced the price of electricity by 19 paisas per unit in the head of fuel adjustment charges for the month of June, reported 24NewsHDTV channel.

According to the notification, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CCPA) had recommended a reduction of 80 paisas per unit. 

The Nepra held a public hearing on the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) case on July 28, 2021. 

According to the notification, the reduction in the prices will be applicable to the electricity bills for the month of August. 

The Nepra said that the price cut decision will also be applicable to all consumers of DISCOs except those consumers who spend 300 units a month, lifeline consumers, and agricultural consumers.

Besides this, the industrial consumers who are getting the benefit of the industrial support package, will not get the negative FCA facility on already extra reduced-price units. However, the Rs20 per unit power tariff consumers will get the benefit of negative FCA.

According to Nepra, the fuel price adjustment will not be applicable to the K-electric. 

The Nepra also issued a notification of six months K-electric monthly fuel charges adjustment. 

According to the Nepra notification, for three months, the power tariff will be raised and for another three months, it will be slashed for the K-electricity consumers. 

For Jan 2021, the Nepra has raised the price of K-electricity by Rs1.25 per unit in the head of K-FCA. For Feb 2021, the hike is Rs2.1 per unit; for March the surge is Rs1.94 per unit.

For April 2021, the Nepra has reduced the price of K-electricity by 55 paisas; for May the cut is 95paisas and for June the electricity tariff reduction is 15paisas. 

The Nepra notified that the application of January and June AFC will be applicable in the month of August 2021 for K-electricity consumers. 

The application of February and April AFC will be applicable in the month of September 2021.

The application of March and May AFC will be applicable in the month of October 2021.

According to Nepra, the increase in the prices of K-electricity will be applicable to all except the lifeline consumers and those who spend 300 units a month and agricultural consumers.
