The police on Sunday registered an FIR against local leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in Rawalpindi for violating coronavirus safety SOPs during a rally.

The complainant told the police that around 150 people took part in the rally and they did not follow the SOPs meant for their protection against the coronavirus. Rawalpindi’s Cantonment police were told that the rally could result in spread of coronavirus in the city. Of those nominated in the FIR, 11 are associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) or the PDM. Former Rawalpindi mayor Sardar Naseem and former MNA Malik Abrar are also nominated in the FIR.

PDM, an alliance of 11 opposition political parties, was formed a few weeks ago and it is currently trying to dislodge the incumbent of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
