Special Assistant to PM for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday said peaceful Aurat March would be acceptable but the slogans are not.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, Firdous lambasted the Aurat March slogans like ‘mera jism meri marzi’ and termed them ‘misguided’.

“My few sisters and daughters are raising such slogans which are against the socio-religio values of our society. In the name of women empowerment, such slogans represent western values not ours,” she said.

Firdous highlighted that in Pakistani society and in Islam it is the father, brother, husband and son who give protection to their women. She said, “These slogans do not reflect our social values and are not acceptable. Even our mind does not accept such a mindset.”

“A few people with their vested interests are misleading the women of our country,” she maintained, adding she would be part of peaceful marches for raising women rights.

Firdous said, “All peaceful protests are acceptable in Pakistan. It is the right of all citizens and the Pakistan constitution grants permission for peaceful protest. And every gender can exercise this right”.

Earlier, in a series of tweets, Firdous said that the government has fulfilled its legal responsibility by writing a letter to the British authorities for the deportation of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Regarding PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s criticism of the government, the special assistant said the destroyers of the country’s economy have flown to London.
