Punjab 17-member cabinet takes oath

Baligh-ur-Rehman administers oath in a ceremony at Punjab Governor House

The 17-member Punjab cabinet on Wednesday took oath of office at the Governor House in Lahore, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

Governor Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman administered oath to the new members of the provincial cabinet. 

The oath ceremony started after recitation from Holy Quran.

Punjab chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was present there while the PML-N leaders, supporters and the close relatives of the members also graced the occasion.

After the oath, the governor congratulated the new members.

 Marriyum Aurangzeb took oath as a senior minister while Azma Bukhari also took oath as a provincial minister.

 Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, Sher Ali Gorchani, Ramesh Singh Adora, Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Salman Rafique, Imran Nazir, Zeeshan Rafique and Sohaib Bharat are also among those who took oath.

Similarly, Bilal Yasin, Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman and Sohail Shaukat Butt are also among those who took oath in the 17-member cabinet of Punjab.

According to sources, the names of the cabinet ministers were approved by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.

Sources said Marriyum Aurangzeb would be the senior provincial minister. She will also hold the ministries of Planning and Development, Environment and Forest Department.

Azma Zahid Bukhari will be the Minister of Information and Culture.

Ashiq Hussain Kirmani will be given the Ministry of Agriculture, Kazim Pirzada will hold the portfolio of Irrigation Department. 

Rana Sikandar Hayat will be assigned the Ministry of Primary Education while Chaudhry Shafey Hussain will be given the Ministry of Industries Department.

For the first time in the provincial cabinet, a Sikh community member will be made minister. Ramesh Singh Arora is expected to be given the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Similarly, Tahir Khalil Sindhu will take over the Human Rights Ministry, Sher Ali Gorchani will have Mines and Minerals Ministry, Khawaja Salman Rafiq (Specialized Health), Khawaja Imran Nazir (Primary and Secondary Health), Zeeshan Rafiq (Local Government) and Malik Sohaib Ahmad Berth (Ministry of Communications).
