Former Test cricketer Aaqib Javed too joined the ongoing debate on match fixing and said everyone turned against him after recording statement before Justice Ejaz Yousuf.

He was also threatened repeatedly that he would be killed because of speaking up in the court, Aaqib revealed.

According to 24NewsHD, the former Test cricketer said so many things were hidden in the Justice Qayyum Commission, which had been later admitted by the judge.

Aaqib said Justice Qayyum had also confessed that more players would have been punished if Atta-ur-Rehman had not backtracked from his earlier statement.

He said match fixing and betting mafia were on the top in 1990s. Five to six players were used to manage a match, he added.

Match fixing was given a boost by making Mohammad Amir a hero again, Aaqib added.

The mafia is very strong and the players are weak. Once a player gets involved in fixing, the mafia doesn’t allow him a way out,the former pacer said.

He called for lifetime ban on those found guilty of fixing and 10-year jail term, and said everyone speaking up against match fixers had been on the receiving end.

The players become a part of fixing mafia once on their own, there is no mechanism to leave that afterward, said Aqib.

Wasim Akram didn’t want to include him in the team, Aqib said and added that he decided for early retirement because of his attitude and other players.

About Salim Malik, he said the former captain deserved an opportunity and even a post in Pakistan Cricket Board. Malik was being appointed as the chief coach at Pakistan Cricket Academy during the tenure of Ejaz Butt.
