The Lahore High Court (LHC) has stopped the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) from acquiring more land for its flagship project till further orders as farmers challenged the 127-years-old Land Act of 1894, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The LHC issuing 27-A notice summoned the Attorney General of Pakistan and Advocate General Punjab to facilitate the court.

The court also summoned the federal government, Punjab government, and RUDA officials during the next hearing.

Advocate Waqar A Sheikh who was representing the farmers in the court argued that the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 was not applicable keeping in view the current situation.

The land acquisition collectors have been given infinite powers under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894. So the Act needs to be subject to further amendments, he argued.
