Punjab Assembly’s Cabinet Sunday gave its approval to declare the Chinese city of Nanjing and Lahore as sister cities, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Standing Committee on Legislative business (SCLB) of the provincial assembly also allowed twin sister status to Tianjin Binhai Library, China, and Quaid-e-Azam Library, Lahore.

The SCLB decision has paved the way for formal agreements to declare twin sisters’ status to both cities and organizations.

The SCLB of the Punjab Cabinet has informed the federal government regarding the approval of sister cities.

After the approval, the number of twin cities of Lahore has increased to 19 in different countries, while agreements with four more cities are in the process of completion. Istanbul was the first to be declared a sister city of Lahore in 1975.

The sister cities of Lahore include Istanbul, Sariwon, Xi’an, Kortrijk, Fez, C¢rdoba, Bukhara and Samarkand, Isfahan, Mashad, Glasgow, Chicago, Belgrade, Fresno, Krakow, Coimbra, and Dushanbe.

The agreement between the libraries will allow a large number of students to be educated on modern lines.
