Pakistan reported 467 new coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours (Monday) after which the overall number of infections recorded in the country reached 315,757, shows the latest update released by the National Command and Operation Centre on Tuesday morning.

This reduction in new cases is a welcoming sign after the recent uptick in infections, which had created fears that the country might face a worsening situation amid the reopening of educational institutions.

Meanwhile, six more people died due to the coronavirus infection on Monday, raising the death toll to 6,523.

On the other hand, Punjab has become the second province where the number of cases officially reported crossed the grim milestone of 100,000.

The region-wise distribution of the coronavirus cases is: Sindh 138,593, Punjab 100,033, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 38,105, Islamabad 16,845, Balochistan 15,420, Gilgit-Baltistan 3,857 and Azad Kashmir 2,874.

On Monday, another 28,280 tests were administered in the country, which increased the overall number to 3,702,607.

The past 24 hours also saw another 780 coronavirus patients fully recovering from the infection, meaning that 300,616 people have so far overcome the infection. Moreover, it raised the number of closed cases [deaths + number of people recovering from infection] in the country to 307,139.

As far as the number of active cases is concerned, there are 8,618 people currently battling with the virus. However, 793 of them are receiving treatment in hospitals.

Out of the abovementioned hospitalised patients, 516 are in a critical condition and admitted in intensive care units with 86 of them placed on ventilators.
