Corona receding as Pakistan records 39 deaths, 1,212 cases, 2.60 ratio

Pakistan has registered 39 more coronavirus deaths and 1,212 infections during the last 24 hours (Tuesday), showed the statistics released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday morning. 

As per the NCOC figures, after the addition of 39 new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 27,986 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,253,868 after adding the fresh 1,212 cases.

During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), a total of 46,477 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio stood at 2.60 percent. The number of patients in critical care was 3,079.

During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), as many as 2,171 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 1,181,054. As of Wednesday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 44,828.

As many as 461,258 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 434,139 in Punjab, 175,012 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 105,839 in Islamabad, 33,004 in Balochistan, 34,278 in Azad Kashmir and 10,338 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 12,724 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 7,451 in Sindh, 5,608 in KP, 930 in Islamabad, 738 in Azad Kashmir, 349 in Balochistan and 186 in Gilgit Baltistan.

Factors from rising food prices to unequal vaccine access will hurt the global economic rebound from the pandemic this year, with poorer countries particularly affected, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva warns.

- Record deaths again in Russia -
Russia sets another daily record of 895 deaths as its Delta variant outbreak pushes its total to 211,696 deaths -- the highest in Europe.

- 4.8 million dead -
The coronavirus has killed at least 4,805,049 people since the outbreak emerged in China in December 2019, according to an AFP compilation of official data. 

The US is the worst-affected country with 702,285 deaths, followed by Brazil with 598,152, India with 449,260, Mexico 279,106 and Russia with 211,696.

Based on the latest reports, the countries with the most new deaths were the US with 2,052 new deaths, followed by Russia with 895 and Ukraine with 317.
