Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) backed Senator Saleem Mandviwalla announced that his party would oppose the promulgation of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Second Amendment Ordinance 2021.

According to 24News HD TV Channel, the President of Pakistan Wednesday promulgated the ordinance sent by Prime Minister Imran Khan to him after getting the approval of the federal cabinet the same day.

Reacting over the matter, PPP Senator Saleem Mandviwalla said that the federal ministers had come up with strange logic regarding the appointment of new NAB chairman

Mandviwalla said the federal ministers were unaware of the parliamentary tradition as well as the law regarding the appointment of the NAB Chairman.

The Senator said the law regarding the appointment of NAB chairman was clear that the latter would be appointed after consultation with the PM and the Leader of the Opposition.

The PPP Senator said that the government couldn’t change the parliamentary traditions by issuing the NAB ordinances for its own interests.

According to the NAB ordinance, the president will have the power to set up as many accountability courts as he wants and the judges of accountability courts will be appointed for three years.

The President will consult the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition for the appointment of Chairman NAB.

Moreover, the President will appoint the judges of the NAB courts after consultation with the chief justices of the high courts.
