Murad, Asad come face to face over sugar report

Two federal ministers came face to face at the federal cabinet meeting over report on sugar crisis in the country.

Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed and Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar exchanged words over the FIA report on sugar crisis. Prime Minister intervened to defuse the discussion broke up the altercation.

According to the sources, Murad Saeed pointed finger at Asad and said: “As ECC chairman, you should take the responsibility as you have given the permission of exporting sugar in 2018. Media and people are holding federal cabinet and Prime Minister Imran Khan responsible for this crisis.”

Replying to Murad, Asad said: “I did not grant permission alone, as other ECC members were also part of the approval. The ECC took the decision on the recommendations of sugar advisory board. We could not put blame on one person.”

Taking notice of the situation, Prime Minister Imran Khan intervened in the discussion and cooled them off.

It is expected that 70 percent sugar was exported to Afghanistan. The prime minister tasked two federal ministers with a probe into the matter.
