Opposition leaders heaped praise on the top court for its decision to annul the deputy speaker's ruling to dismiss the no-confidence motion and the subsequent dissolution of the National Assembly by the president, reported 24News HD TV channel.

Addressing a joint press conference, they dubbed the decision historic that would help strengthen democracy, ensure the supremacy of the constitution, and better public service delivery freely.

“We will successfully complete the phase of the no-confidence motion,” Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif said.

“We will contact everyone for reforms in the parliament,” he said stressing that there is no word for revenge in the PML-N dictionary.

“The constitution and democracy of Pakistan won,” PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto said. Shehbaz Sharif said they are grateful to the court for this great decision that buried all the doctrines of the necessity.

He added: "This is neither a defeat nor a victory.  This is a victory of justice, constitution, Pakistan. The SC verdict will be remembered in golden letters"

He said joint efforts for the cause will go on. He ALSO thanked his party and united opposition for nominating him as PM.

MQM-Pakistan leader Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said it was a historic decision. He expressed hope the new leadership will provide a Pakistan in which those who speak every language will be considered equally loyal and entitled.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said this is the victory of Pakistan and democracy and said that because of this we will move towards the restoration of democracy. He vowed to restore media freedom and provide people with their due rights.

“Together we will bring such electoral reforms, which will lead to the free and transparent election and solve public issues with a mandate,” he added.

Earlier, JUI chief Fazlur Rehman and Shehbaz Sharif in the previous press conference said the decision will help strengthen democracy and uphold the supremacy of the constitution.

The Supreme Court issued orders to recommence the session of the National Assembly asserting the session cannot be adjourned without the conclusion of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The apex court ruled that President Dr Arif Alvi's decision to dissolve the National Assembly was "illegal" and restored Prime Minister Imran Khan as well as his cabinet.

The court added said that the government could not interfere in the participation of any MNA in the assembly session.  "...if the no-confidence motion against the prime minister succeeds, then the assembly will appoint the new prime minister," the top court's order said.
