Case against sugar mills owner for not paying farmers on time

Haroon Akhtar, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and a former member of the Senate of Pakistan, was booked on Sunday after the sugar mills he owns failed to pay sugarcane farmers’ dues on time. 

The case was registered on the application of Deputy Director Khalid Mehmood of the Agriculture Department in Faisalabad under the Sugar Factories Control Act. Tandlianwala Sugar Mills owner Haroon Akhtar, Cane Manager Atif and Accountant Umar have been named in the case. 

According to the FIR, the sugar mills owner and the management did not pay farmers due within 15 days after purchase of sugarcane from them. Haroon Akhtar’s Tandlianwala Sugar Mills is located on Samundri Road in Kanjwani.
