The death toll from the coronavirus in Pakistan has topped 2,000 as the country registered 4,960 more patients taking the total number of Covid-19 cases to 98,943 during the last 24 hours.

According to the latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre early Sunday, Pakistan continued to face a steady rise in the number of virus-infected people as the total number of deaths rose to 2002 with the addition of 67 more deaths.

The latest NCOC figures on Saturday also showed that record 97 people died of the coronavirus, raising the death toll to 1,935.

Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan reached yet another tragic milestone as it surpassed China in the total number of coronavirus cases.

The overall number of coronavirus cases reported in Sindh now stands at 36,364, 37,090 in Punjab, 13,001 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6,221 in Balochistan, 4,979 in Islamabad, 927 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 361 in Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, 1,265 patients are in critical condition and being treated in ICUs at different hospitals across the country, as the total number of hospitalised persons now stands at 5,076.

Meanwhile, Punjab reported 24 new deaths after which the total number in the province rose to 683 followed by 634 in Sindh with the addition of another 19 deaths during the past 24 hours.

The number of deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa climbed to 561 as the province recorded 20 more fatalities. It is followed by Balochistan 54, Islamabad 49, Gilgit-Baltistan 13 and Azad Kashmir eight.

As far as the active cases are concerned, there are 63,476 people in the country still infected by the virus while the number of those fully recovered from the infection has reached 33,645.

The past 24 hours also saw 23,100 tests conducted in the country, which means the overall number since the outbreak of pandemic has increased to 683,608.
