US to welcome productive dialogue between Pakistan and India, says State Department

The United States welcomes dialogue between Pakistan and India amid signals that both neighboring countries are set to start bilateral talks after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's sent congratulation message to his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif on becoming PM for second time, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller during weekly press briefing in Washington said, "We want to see peaceful and constructive relations between Pakistan and India, adding peaceful and productive dialogue will be hailed between the two neighboring countries."

However, the spokesperson of the US Department of State made it clear during the briefing that the pace and nature of the talks has to be determined by both countries.
