Construction work on Gwadar International Airport begins

CPEC Authority chief says all pending issues sorted out, machinery cleared by Gwadar Port

Lieutenant General (Retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa, chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority and special assistant to prime minister on information and broadcasting, has said that construction work on Gwadar International Airport has begun.

In a tweet on Thursday, Bajwa said that all pending issues related to the project have been sorted out and the containers carrying machinery have been cleared by the Gwadar Port. Its cost is $230 million. He said that labour force working on the project has been mobilised and given a briefing on the coronavirus safety measures.

Gwadar International Airport is an international airport situated 14 km north of the city centre of Gwadar in the Balochistan province. It will be capable of handling a combination of ATR 72, Airbus, (A-300), Boeing (B-737) and Boeing (B-747) for domestic as well international routes.
