PML-N leader and former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday announced that he wanted to get an FIR registered against Imran Khan, the incumbent prime minister, at the same police station where now-infamous sedition case was registered against the PML-N leaders.

Talking to media persons at the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad, Abbasi said, “I will visit the Shahdara Police Station for case registration,” challenging the ministers to get the traitors arrested. “The government distributing the traitor certificates extensively. [We] must also be informed where the patriotism certificate is distributed,” he remarked.

Such cases were filed in the past too but even the Azad Kashmir prime minister had been spared in the latest episode, he noted.

The former prime minister – who is a close confidant of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif – said, “The entire country is weeping, India and Modi are laughing.”

Referring to the PTI government, he said that the three retired generals, two former prime minister and the current AJK premier were being described as traitors.

Talking about the earlier statements issued by the government members in which the main leadership of the main opposition party were labelled as traitors, he said those levelling the allegation had gone missing.

“The rented spokespersons are missing for third day,” the former prime minister said, adding that the ruling party members had been chanting traitor, traitor before the case was filed.

“It is being said that the prime minister doesn’t know about the case. He is not happy,” Abbasi remarked and added that a new story was emerging who had got the case registered.

Blasting Imran, the senior PML-N leader quipped that the prime minister had information about inflation and destruction of economy. “The prime minister doesn’t know that the flour was being sold for Rs72.”

The mental status of Imran can be gauged by the revelations made by former FIA director general Bashir Memon, he added. “A person who doesn’t care about [his] oath, doesn’t care about [Article] 62 [and 63, wants to get others imprisoned.”

Abbasi said that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had not been formed for distributing traitor certificates. “The PDM’s narrative is that there shouldn’t be any fraud in vote and the country is run according to the Constitution,” the PML-N leader stressed.

The latest controversy began with the registration of sedition case on Monday against Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah and others who attended the party meetings addressed by the PML-N supremo from London via a video link.

Reacting strongly to a move, the AJK Legislative Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution which read that the FIR had created resentment among those who stood for the Constitution and democracy, especially the millions of Kashmiris living in Azad Kashmir, Occupied Kashmir and abroad.

“This frivolous case has made Pakistan a laughing stock at international level,” the resolution read and added that the move had damaged Pakistan’s principled stance.”

Earlier, it was revealed that Badar Rashid, on whose application the sedition case, is a criminal and contested the local government elections on PTI ticket for the slot of union council chairman.

Moreover, there are images in which Badar can be seen with Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar, other PTI leaders and former chief justice Saqib Nisar.

Despite the government members distancing themselves from the sedition case, the FIR has been quashed yet. Moreover, such cases can’t be registered without the approval of federal or provincial government.
