The Lahore High Court has barred country’s sugar mills including mills of sugar baron Jehangir Khan Tareen from hoarding the commodity, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Lahore High Court heard a set of intra court appeals seeking price determination of sugar on Thursday.

In its ruling, the court ordered all sugar mills including Tareen’s mills to refrain from hoarding sugar. It also stopped the concerned deputy commissioners from unlawfully taking sugar stock from the mills. It summoned lawyers representing the parties to the case for arguments on Oct 13.

A two-member bench of LHC headed by Justice Shahid Kareem heard intra court appeals of sugar mills owners.

Deputy Attorney General Asad Ali Bajwa represented the government in the court.

He told the court that the government institutes never took sugar stock unlawfully from the sugar mills. He elaborated that the supply chain management under orders got sugar from sugar mills.

Justice Kareem remarked that the court never passed such an order which was against the law. He asked the institutes to take action according to law.

The counsel for the applicants told the bench that while disposing of appeals against fixing sugar price, the single bench had sent the matter to the concerned forum.

The petition stated that the decision of the single bench regarding disposing of the appeals against determination of sugar price was not according to the law and it should be declared null and void.

It was also prayed in the petition to hold the decision of the single bench in abeyance till the final verdict on the case.
