Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday expressed the fear that the number of coronavirus cases may register a spike at the end of the current month.

He also came down hard on the people undermining the impact of the deadly coronavirus. “I feel regret for the people playing down the danger of the deadly Covid-19, that has been looming large,” he told the media in Islamabad.

He said: “These people are misleading the nation. They say Pakistan is protected from the virus as the number of deaths in other states is in thousands but in our country, only a few people have died of the virus.”

He feared the situation could be out of control in a month if protective measures are not adopted.

“The tally of virus-hit people will reach to the new level when ventilators will fall short. Such a silly understanding will result in irreparable loss.”

A committee led by Federal Minister Asad Umer is monitoring the situation to cope with economic challenges in this situation.

Imran Khan said he is very much concerned about the daily wagers, saying Rs12 billion are allocated to provide cash relief to them

“One person of a family will get Rs12,000 after thorough scanning.”

The Prime Minister said the process to provide cash relief to poor segments of the society will start on Thursday and will take two to two and a half weeks to complete.
