As heavy monsoon rains continue battering Sindh and Balochistan, flash flooding washed away a section of the Coastal Highway in Pasni, disconnecting Gwadar with Karachi.

On the other hand, a large area in Dadu district – especially around Johi – had been flooded as Nai Gaj, a small river originating from the Kirthar Mountains, overflowed with the water level reaching the 28 feet mark.

Similar, scenes were being witnessed in Jacobabad and several other areas on Saturday as torrential rains generated by a monsoon system moving in from India are playing havoc in the region.

The heavy rains had started affecting parts of Balochistan – including Makran, Jaffarabad, Khuzdar and Sibi – on Friday morning but the intensity further increased by night.

On the other hand, the Met Office has warned that many areas of the province will experience downpours and the resultant flash floods for the next three days.

Meanwhile, it is still raining in Karachi intermittently with varied and reduced intensity in different localities. It is expected that the weather system would stop affecting the port city by late Saturday evening.

According to the Met Office, the amount of rain recorded in different areas of Karachi during the past 24 hours was: Faisal Airbase 109 mm; Masroor Base 97 mm; Saddar, Surjani Town and Old Airport 86 mm; University Road 82 mm and Landhi 81 mm.

At least 15 people died in rain-related incidents, including electrocution, in different parts of the city. As feared, many localities and thoroughfares were inundated as heavy rains yet again exposed the inadequacies of the city infrastructure.

On Friday, the ISPR said the army teams were helping the civil administration in pumping the rainwater out of the low-lying areas and rescuing the citizens in Karachi.
