Bomb blasts rock Quetta: two policemen martyred, 12 cops among 23 injured

Two policemen embraced martyrdom and another 21 persons including 12 cops sustained injuries in a bomb blast near a police van at Ittehad Chowk in Quetta city Sunday evening.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the bomb was planted in a motorcycle that exploded near the Quetta Press Club and Quetta Union of Journalists office.

The martyred cops are identified as Niaz Ahmad from Sibbi and Ali Akbar from Dera Bugti.  The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Quetta. Backed by law enforcement agencies, rescuers reached the site.

Moments after the blast near a police van, another explosion took place on Sariab Road of Quetta. Two people were  injured and shifted to a nearby hospital.

Blasts condemned widely 

Balochistan CM Jam Kamal condemned the blasts and reiterated his governments' peace resolve, saying that such acts are aimed at sabotaging peace.

In a statement, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani said the government will not let anyone ruin the efforts for peace in the country. He prayed for the departed souls and expressed solidarity with victims.

Separately, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad condemned the blast and it a 'coward act'. 

He announced the federal government will provide all-out support to the province to maintain law and order. 

Bilawal wants NAP enforced 

Also, opposition condemned the blast and showed solidarity with the victims.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto urged Imran Khan government to stop obliging terrorists in the country. He asked the government to implement on National Action Plan with letter and spirit.

Former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity the victims. He prayed to the Almighty to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude. 

Awami National Party (ANP) head Asfand Yar Wali Khan called for a rapid action against terrorists. He took a swipe at the PTI government, saying that the government was not serious to curb terrorism in the country.
