Different sections of the motorways were closed Thursday as several parts of the country were under the influence of dense fog, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the motorways police spokesperson, Motorway (M-2) was closed from Lahore to Sheikhupura due to heavy fog.

Lahore-Sialkot Motorway was closed due to fog. Lahore-Multan Motorway (M-3) was also closed from Faizpur to Darkhana.

Motorway (M-4) was closed from Pindi Bhatian to Abdul Hakeem. Motorway (M-5) was also closed from Multan to Sukkur.

The motorways police spokesperson said that the motorways were closed to ensure public safety and safe travel.

“The road users should use front and rear fog lights of their vehicles. They should also avoid unnecessary travel,” he advised.

“Avoid speeding and keep proper distance from other vehicles on the road. The motorists can contact helpline 130 for information and assistance. Information can also be obtained from the Humsafar App of motorways police,” he added.

In Lahore, the Eastern Bypass and motorway from Babu Sabu to Thokar Niaz Baig were closed due to dense fog.

Due to the closure of the motorway, the number of wardens at the entry and exit points of the city was increased.

The number of wardens was increased at Babu Sabu, Thokar Niaz Baig, Shahdara Chowk and Old Ravi Bridge, according to the Lahore traffic police.

The Shahdara deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was present at Ravi Bridge on the instructions of the chief traffic officer (CTO).

The Saddr DSP had also been directed to ensure smooth flow of traffic at Babu Sabu Chowk and Thokar Niaz Baig.

Due to the dense fog, there was an unusual load of traffic on the entry and exit points of the city, according to the Lahore traffic police.

Due to the closure of motorways, the entire load of the motorways traffic was shifted to GT Road.

The motorists were directed to keep flasher lights on open while travelling and drive carefully.

They were also directed to call Helpline 15 for guidance and assistance.

“Citizens are being kept informed about the fog situation through Rasta App and FM 88.6,” the CTO stated.
