The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has sought the details of flood-related expenditures from Pakistan, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to sources, the government cited flood-related expenses as the reason for the increase in the primary budget.

The primary budget deficit may reach Rs1100b, the insiders said, adding that the primary budget for the current financial year was to have a surplus of Rs152b as per the IMF conditions.

Pakistan began its talks with the fund last month to discuss an economy-rescuing plan designed to ward off Pakistan's economic meltdown in 2019.

To meet the IMF's conditions for the critical loan, the government has already hiked petroleum prices and pushed power, gas, and other commodities out of the reach of income-strapped segments of society.
