The federal government has assured the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of allaying its legitimate concerns regarding electoral reforms, reported 24NewsHD TV channel, quoting its sources.

In this regard, Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Khalid Jawed Khan on Thursday visited ECP offices and had a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

The AGP also assured the CEC that the government will withdraw amendments regarding demarcations and voters lists. He further said the government will not bulldoze the proposals forwarded by anyone including the Opposition.

The CEC also reacted positively to the electronic voting and right to vote for the overseas Pakistanis, saying he has no objections to these issues.

He, however, stressed that there was a need to work more on the mechanism for electronic voting and the right to vote for the overseas Pakistanis.

During the meeting, the AGP proposed the test use of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in a by-election.
