The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to approach the Supreme Court against the bails granted to PML-N leaders Ahsan Iqbal and Khawaja Asif by high courts.

According to a NAB statement,  NAB had filed a reference against Ahsan Iqbal in an accountability court of Islamabad that is being heard and it planned to move the Islamabad accountability court making a request for holding hearings on a daily basis under the Section 16(a) of NAB Ordinance.

It added that the top court will also be moved against bail granted to the Kh Asif.

The statement comes a day after the Islamabad High Court and Lahore High Court gave their rulings in favour of Ahsan and Kh Asif respectively.

The Islamabad High Court issued a detailed bail order in the Narowal Sports City Complex case against former federal minister Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday, ruling that NAB overstepped its authority when it arrested him in 2019.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) also issued its judgement on the bail application of Khawaja Asif the same day while it had granted him bail a couple of weeks ago in a case against NAB over money laundering and assets beyond means.

The 18-page judgment said that the allegation of assets in excess of income against Asif is under investigation. No reference has been filed against the PML-N leader to date.
